AGRI-ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SCHEMES

The agri-environmental schemes, under the control of the Department of Agriculture and Food in Ireland are the Green Low Carbon Agri Environmental Scheme (GLAS), the Agricultural Environmental Options Scheme (AEOS) and the Rural Environmental Protection Scheme (REPS). The Department of the Environment operate the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Farm Plan Scheme for lands classified as “Target Area”.

 

The REPS scheme started in 1994 and was replaced in 2010 by the AEOS which in turn has been replaced by GLAS. The GLAS Scheme started in May 2015 with a second chance to apply anticipated in September 2015.James Carton was one of the first Agriculturalists trained to prepare applications on behalf of farmers for the REPS scheme when it was launched in 1994 and Carton Rural Consultants is now one of the major GLAS/AEOS/REPS planning agencies in the midlands with offices in Granard Co. Longford and Mullingar Co. Westmeath.
